Why do light electric vehicles need traffic insurance?

From 1 December 2024, motor insurance is required for all vehicles powered solely by a motor whose manufacturer’s speed exceeds 25 km/h, or exceeds 14 km/h if the vehicle weighs more than 25 kg. This requirement also applies to unregistered vehicles, including light electric vehicles, small mopeds, and work machines.

Someone suddenly steps in front of the scooter

We cannot always predict the behaviour of others. A pedestrian walking ahead - especially a child or a dog on a leash - may suddenly change direction, and a collision might be unavoidable. In such cases, traffic insurance helps cover the injured person's medical expenses.

Damage to someone else’s property

Sometimes while riding a scooter you may not manage to brake in time. This could result in a scratch on a parked car, damage to a fence, or a collision with another vehicle. In these situations, traffic insurance helps compensate for damage caused to other people’s property.

An electric scooter battery explodes

Unfortunately, there have been cases where an electric scooter left charging has overheated and caught fire, causing a fire accident. Even in such cases, traffic insurance helps cover damage caused to other people's property.
